OMG can you believe how quickly this is coming around. In less than 2 weeks me and 51 other lovely ladies will be heading of to the gorgeous Country Place in the beautiful Dandy mountains for 3 full days of scrappn heaven!!. I can not wait. Busy busy organising some surprises ...wink
Only started thinking about what stuff to bring this year. Made a promise I will only be traveling "light" cos I know I will probably be drinking and eating and socialising more than I will be scrappn - lol
This year's classes will be very relaxed and self paced. I am going to be teaching my class on Sunday - girls there is still time to pre order your kits from Scraptacular by calling the shop. Kits are $60 this year and you get everything you need to make 2 LO and 5 gorgeous cards.
Price for the kits is soooo reasonable - considering I spent over $60 for the materials to make my class Layout alone!!!!!
Plus this year we have thrown in step by step instructions - WOW!!!, lol
which means that if you dont want to listen to Jules, Lisa or myself.... you can follow the instructions and complete the LO's in your own time !, how cool is that! and makes for a less formal and more relaxing scrappn weekend!!!

Details below courtesy of the Scraptac newsletter !

Tribute night at our place!

Saturday, June 27, 2009

I was reading a really beautiful post by a stranger on FB today, and she was responding to some very nasty and terrible comments made to her post about her grieving Michael Jackson today, Not sure if the people that left these messages on her wall were her friends or not, but they said some very negative and shocking things.... wont go there!
Her response was awesome, she said that everyone is entitled to their own opinion of the man, but we ALL should just let him rest in peace. The best way to do this, she said is to rejoice and celebrate his life, to play his music, dance his moves and remember him today and everyday. If those that love him and love his music, continue to remember him and play his music, we will all help him to transition into the gates of heaven....

So , it got me thinking, why not have his fans and those that love his music, get together and celebrate his life, remember all the good he has done for the less fortunate.... why not have a tribute night in memory of Michael Jackson... I am sure that I am not the only one that has though of this, LOL, but if everyone out there who loves him as much as I do, gets together with their friends, families and have a totally awesome party, wouldn't that be great!

I ran the idea of a night of singing and dancing (Barb, get your moves ready babe!)with dh, and he was all for it, so next weekend, theres a party at our place!!!, wish I could invite everyone I know that loves MJ, but our place is not that big,lol

I would love to hear of anyone else that has or is thinking of doing the same.. how cool would it be to upload a collage of photos on our blogs of the night!!

Michael Jackson 1958-2009 RIP

Friday, June 26, 2009

I like so many of Michael Jackson's fans across the world, am still coming to terms with the very sad and shocking news that is his death.

Last night I was googling a photo of the music legend during his concerts here in Australia.... I was so fortunate to have seen him live in 1988 for the Bad tour and then again in 1997 when he toured Oz for his history tour... I am in the process of trying to source photo's of the music artist that have influenced me in so many levels over the years. I have recently found a Rock photographer who is an amazing artist herself who captures our music icons in concert. I was so inspired after seeing P!nk the other night and seeing Kirsty's photos on Flikr. The emotion that this woman captures on film is amazing. So my mission to source the artists I have seen in concert began- Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Pink, Jamiroquai - just to name a few, and of course the legend that is Michael Jackson!

This morning, a dear friend of mine called me, and I told her about what I was doing last night and how I found this amazing photo of MJ during his Bad Tour that I desperately want. She let me go on and on and then when I finally stopped blabbing she was silent for a while and then said " you haven't heard the news, have you"

I had no idea what she was talking about and then she said " Deb, Michael Jackson died this morning!" I was like, wtf, is this a joke Barb, and she said NO!

I can not express how I felt just then, I had been busy with the kids all morning to turn on the radio, or the TV, so I had no idea that the world was woken to this terrible and shocking news that Michael Jackson had passed away - suffering from a heart attack!

As I sit here in front of my laptop writing this, I am still in total shock and somewhat denial.

Those that know me, know how much I love MJ. He was a part of my teenage life and beyond.

My friend and I reminisced his influence on us growing up. Weekends spent as a silly teenager in my friends garage, learning all of MJ's dance moves. Listening and singing to his music during lunch at Highschool, watching his videos over and over and , dressing like him, lol

Then of course there with the queuing up for hours, days for the first tickets released in Melbourne for his BAD tour in '88... and pinching myself that I was only meters away from MJ at his concert.

DH knows how die hard of a fan I am, so it was no surprise to him when I dragged him along to his second visit to Australia in the late '90's. Two years later a chose my all time favourite song "I'll be there" by the Jackson 5 , sung of course by MJ when he was only 12yr old, as my wedding march song at our wedding in 1999. A friend of mine sang it beautifully accompanied on piano. I will never forget how emotional I felt that day !!!

As I listened to the news and read the reports on the web today, I was very saddened to hear that dispite the fact that MJ's music shaped and influenced so many artists, touched so many people - who can forget the Save the world project, there were still stories about his " freakishness, flaws, mutation, etc etc... how sad that people continue to make such nasty and horrible comments even in death!!!, No matter what your opinion is of him, or if you have been influenced in some way by the media and all the bullshit, one can not deny that this man is and will always be a music icon, the KING of Pop - the greatest entertainer of all time.

In MJ's words and I quote "They did it to try and belittle me, to try and to take away my pride. But I went through the whole system with them. And at the end, I – I wanted the public to know that I was okay, even though I was hurting." he never gave up on his fans, he's life was his fans and his music.

MJ, as I write this i can not stop the tears, but I know you are now with the angels, finally at peace, no one can hurt you now!, may your soul rest in peace.
